what's next?

Why are people so concerned with WHAT'S NEXT?

Oh, you just got married... when are you having a baby?

Oh, you just had a baby... when are you having another one?

Oh, you just got your BA degree... when are you getting your MA?

Oh, you have a job... what are you going to do next?

Oh, you just got that really cool (insert tech thing)... when are you getting (insert better tech thing)?

WHY CAN'T WE JUST BE CONTENT WITH NOW??

¹⁴ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. ¹⁵ What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” ¹⁶ Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil.

James 4:14-16

Life is short.  We should live it content.

6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. 8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

1 Timothy 6:6-8

I do not need to obsessively want better, bigger, greater, all the time. I do not need to live focused on WHAT'S NEXT, the FUTURE, or my plans.  I need to live for the here and now.  For doing something for His Kingdom NOW... not later. Today, not tomorrow.

I will be content in Jesus.
