Week 3 ~ Beauty in the Mirror

Week 3 ~ The Dance, The Beauty

PRAY!
A lot of today's lesson comes from, Do you think I'm Beautiful? by Angela Thomas (great book! I suggest EVERY woman read it!)

Maybe after last week, you still don’t really believe you are beautiful, then listen up:

Page 59:

Psalm 139

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (v.14)

The Dance:

Have you ever been to a dance, maybe middle school or Elementary School. These dances don’t require dates like the Prom, everyone goes, so you go too! The boys are on one side of the room and the boys on the other. As the music plays, boys begin mustering up the courage to ask a girl to dance. All around you, girls are being pulled out onto the dance floor. You stand, like a fly on the wall, thinking no one notices you. You stand for a while, and finally, the hottest guy in the whole school starts walking toward you. You think he’s just gonna ask you to ask your friend if they will dance with him, but he keeps his eyes locked on you and comes directly for you. He holds his hand out and asks you to dance. You are about to pee on yourself, but somehow are able to get your feet to walk to the dance floor. You clumsily dance around b/c you are so nervous and don’t want the song to end because you know that the moment will be over and the dance will be finished. But as the song ends, he asks you if you will keep dancing with him. Your heart is so excited because he likes being seen with you, being with you, and having you near him! A fly on the wall… to dancing with the hottest guy in the whole school!

Maybe in your life you feel like no one notices you. No one loves you. No one thinks you are beautiful. You aren’t good enough compared to “that girl,” the popular girl. God notices you, asks you to dance with him, and never wants that dance to stop. He knows you, and wants you to DANCE WITH HIM, meaning live life with Him, get to know Him, and fall in love with him.

Can you dance awesomely?

If you can’t, don’t fear! God is the leader. You don’t have to know all the steps. In the Christian life, if you are trusting the Lord, you don’t have to know all the right moves. Once you begin the “dance” with God, He will direct you, and eventually, you will begin to know Him deeply and maybe predict His next step, and can look up (instead of looking down at the ground making sure you aren’t stepping on His toes) and look into His eyes and truly know Him! Dance with him! Party with Jesus!

Speaking of dancing and partying…

Who has dreamed or thought about what it’s like to be a bride on her wedding day??

To let you know, it truly is the best day of your life. To know that everything you’ve prayed for is standing at the end of the aisle where you are walking, and to be able to dance and rejoice with your husband at your reception is AWESOME!!

But the bride is the most beautiful women in the world on that day. She is:

Beautiful, Confident, and has Unshakable Hope

On that day, she doesn’t hear any whispers that she isn’t pretty, isn’t good enough, isn’t what she was made to be! She hears promises and truths!

We are brides of Christ! You are beautiful b/c you are His. You should be confident b/c Christ rescued you and He is in control. You should possess an unshakable hope b/c nothing can separate from the love of Christ.

Do you believe it? Why or why not?

Princess Diaries ~ who likes that movie? What happens? Does Mia thinks she is royalty? NO! She thinks she is not dorky and ordinary! YOU ARE ROYALTY!

She was dorky Mia who goes to high school and barely noticed. But she is called to something more and is given a new name, Princess of Genovia!

Barlowgirl's "Mirror" introduction

As Barlowgirl, as Isaiah 62 claims, and as what happens in “Princess Diaries,” God has given you a new name too. How do you think God sees you? What is your beauty? Is it joy? Does He call you Pure? Does He call you Loving? Does He call you Compassionate? Does He call you Changed? What does God call you? Does He just call you His?

*This was SO powerful! The girls said their new name was CHANGED, JOY, PEACE, CONFIDENT.  It was awesome to see how knowing who they are to God, changed their perspective of themselves!*

As we listen to the song “Mirror” by Barlowgirl, take hold of the fact that this world, a mirror, or a boyfriend do NOT define you! Your new name defines you. Your dance with God defines you! Your beautiful “bride glow” defines you!!!

*PASS OUT MIRROR LYRICS* play song and let them journal.

Mirror by Barlowgirl

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, Have I got it?
'Cause Mirror you've always told me who I am
I'm finding it's not easy to be perfect
So sorry you won't define me
Sorry you don't own me

Who are you to tell me
That I'm less than what I should be?
Who are you? Who are you?
I don't need to listen
To the list of things I should do
I won't try, I won't try

Mirror I am seeing a new reflection
I'm looking into the eyes of He who made me
And to Him I have beauty beyond compare
I know He defines me

You don't define me, you don't define me
